based on my activities as a well known private investigator in south
east asia for over a decade.
The first Westerner to
ever manage a Hotel in the vast North Eastern region of Thailand, the Tarin
hotel was in the province of Surin near the Cambodian border. Of a staff of 300,
only a few spoke English.
I later found myself
out of a job when a local scandal involving Russian prostitutes & murder
broke out resulting in the owners fleeing the country. By that time however, I
had acquired a sound knowledge of Thai and Khamen. I also had a good
understanding of local culture, politics, and the general way of life,
plus some influential contacts!
It dawned on me then
that I had the ingredients required to set up as a Private Investigator. Over
the ensuing decade I became one of the more successful P.I.’s in
S.E.Asia. This was primarily due to the fact I was possibly the only western
investigator who was able to sit on mud floors of outback village huts, eat
grasshoppers washed down with rice whiskey, and casually ask about neighbours
sons or daughters in the local dialect –
I decided to
repatriate to my native New Zealand primarily for my then 2 year old daughter Natalie’s
wellbeing. Stephen talked to me about writing my memoirs. I had some tatty
notebooks and lots of memories - he had the writing skills.
Following ‘Confessions’
I wrote "Thai Private Eye" a
follow up book that is a more factual account of conducting Investigations.
Once settled back in
New Zealand, I completed a degree at Victoria University. I also studied
epistemology as it relates to cross cultural interviews and interrogations, and
currently am compiling a handbook on that topic with investigative journalist Karl
Lacroix.
Recently my publishers MONSOON
BOOKS, Singapore released my first novel "CHASING THE DRAGON "

Based on a ( you
guessed it ) Private Detective in Thailand, the follow up book “TRADE ME” has just been put out as an e-book,
while the third in the series “BANGKOK BLACKMAIL” is under way !
Shan terrorists, how to (almost) legally transgress countries / airports, ancient Chinese writings of the great Sun Tzu and even the Thai sweet Khao Lamm are all part of the plot. Should be available on kindle/e - book shops worldwide mid 2012.
